How do I choose carpet for my home?

In today’s market, there is so much to carpeting. Especially when you go to a carpet store, there are so many samples to examine. There are many fibers to consider and many colors and patterns to consider. It can be overwhelming. Don't worry; Don’s Mobile Carpet is here to help you. Let’s see if we can’t make this easier for you.

What are your requirements?

So the first thing you want to do is figure out what your requirements are for the carpet you are buying. For example: What room will it be in? Is it a high or low traffic room? Is it exposed to daylight or dark most of the time? Is it small or large? What do you use the space for? Do you need extra durability? What about stain resistance? How big is your budget? Answer these questions first.

Research your carpet

Now you need to look into the carpet itself. Find out about the five primary fibers manufacturers use wool, polyester, nylon, triexta, and olefin. Research the characteristics of each fiber. Research the elements of natural fibers vs. synthetic ones. Usually, it comes down to which fiber you prefer the most. Then look at the construction styles of the manufacturers, like Berber, Saxony, high pile/low pile, cut pile, looped, cut and looped, frieze, and others.

Quality

Here you look at the carpet itself. Look at the density of the rug. This is how closely the fibers are tufted. The density value should be about 3,000 for your home. Be sure to check this yourself. You want to check the sample card, and if you bend it and see a lot of white space, be sure to ask the flooring expert why. Another determinant of quality is the twist number. This ranges from one to five. The higher the number, the more durable a carpet will be and have less of a chance of unraveling. The number should be somewhere between 3 and 5.
